Moroccan humanitarian aid being distributed across Gaza
Humanitarian aid sent by Morocco under the direct orders of King Mohammed VI has arrived in Gaza and is currently being distributed to displaced populations across the region, according to Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, Director of the Rabat-based Bayt Mal Al-Qods Al-Sharif Agency.
The shipment, totaling 180 tons, includes essential food supplies, medical equipment, and infant formula. It was dispatched as part of Morocco’s ongoing support for Palestinians affected by the collapse of healthcare infrastructure and widespread food insecurity.
The aid “is intended to assist those suffering from hunger, malnutrition, and disease, particularly infants, children, women, and the elderly,” Cherkaoui said in an interview with Le360.
Cherkaoui emphasized that Morocco is among the few countries to deliver aid directly via land routes, ensuring safer and more dignified access for recipients.
“This approach avoids the risks associated with air drops, which have tragically resulted in casualties,” he noted.
The aid has been distributed in camps located in Khan Younis (south), Deir al-Balah (central Gaza), and Nusseirat, Al-Bureij, and Al-Maghazi. Additional shipments are expected to reach northern Gaza in the coming days.
“This is part of a sustained humanitarian effort,” Cherkaoui added, referencing major operations carried out in October 2023, March 2024, and June 2024. He described the initiative as a “genuine act of international solidarity,” warmly received by the Palestinian people.
Beyond emergency relief, Morocco has also invested in long-term infrastructure projects in Gaza. These include the King Hassan II College in Maghraqa, funded personally by King Mohammed VI with a $7 million contribution—and the Crescent Hospital in Tel al-Hawa, which remains operational despite ongoing conflict.
“This support continues without slogans or political posturing thanks to Moroccan diplomacy, Bayt Mal Al-Qods Al-Sharif Agency, and the personal initiatives of HM the King,” Cherkaoui said.
