Oil-drilling vessel capsizes in Gulf of Suez, leaving four dead and four missing

At least four crew members have been confirmed dead and four others remain missing after an oil-drilling ship capsized on Tuesday evening off the coast of Ras Ghareb in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez.

The vessel, which had 30 workers aboard, overturned near Gabel el-Zeit, a key oil production hub roughly 300 kilometres south of the Suez Canal. Rescue teams managed to save 22 crew members, who were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Egypt’s navy joined ongoing search-and-rescue operations as authorities continue efforts to locate the missing personnel. The Petroleum Ministry assured that the incident poses no threat to shipping traffic through the Suez Canal, one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the capsizing.
