Africa/football: Morocco beat Egypt 1-0, advance to final of U-20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025

The Young Atlas Lions qualified to the final of U-20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025 after defeating Thursday host Egypt 1-0, setting up a decisive clash with South Africa, who ousted Nigeria following a 1-0 win.

The Moroccan goal was scored by substitute Jones El Abdellaoui in the 77th minute. The North African derby was marked by intensity with both sides battling hard for supremacy. Egypt started brightly but failed to dominate the game, while Morocco gradually grew into the match, creating more meaningful opportunities.

The Young Atlas Lions will now face the South Africans in an enthralling final on Sunday evening, while the Pharaohs will play for a bronze medal against Nigeria.

Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, and South Africa have already qualified for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup scheduled for September in Chile. The four teams will represent Africa in the global football tournament.
