Morocco, Spain, Portugal reinforce judicial cooperation ahead of 2030 World Cup

Morocco, Spain and Portugal decided to create a joint judicial cooperation commission to reinforce cooperation ahead of the 2030 World Cup they will co-host.

“This commission will be tasked with developing a special framework for judicial cooperation among the three countries, with the aim of supporting the preparations for the 2030 World Cup through the implementation of action plans and specific programs,” Morocco’s justice ministry said in a statement.

“These will aim, in particular, to ensure a robust judicial environment adapted to the security and legal challenges associated with organizing such an international event,” the statement said following a visit by Justice minister Abdellatif Ouahbi to Spain where he met his peer Félix Bolaños García.

The two ministers also signed an agreement to promote judicial cooperation to counter cross border crime and sharing best practices to meet judicial challenges that may arise during the World Cup.

They also agreed to cooperate in the modernization of the judicial system by accelerating the digital transformation, promoting alternative dispute resolution methods, and strengthening mechanisms for handling cross-border cases.
