Libya: Author of assassination attempt on Cabinet Minister Adel Juma identified

The Attorney General’s Office revealed on Tuesday February 25 that the Public Prosecutor has successfully identified the individual responsible for the recent assassination attempt on Cabinet Minister, Adel Juma. The prosecutor confirmed that the suspect had fled the country to neighboring Tunisia.

The Public Prosecutor has issued an arrest warrant and taken steps to apprehend the suspect outside of the national jurisdiction. This includes pursuing international cooperation mechanisms to locate and detain the individual. The prosecutor has also ordered the search for anyone involved in the incident.

Juma was the target of a gunfire attack on 13 February, while he was travelling on Tripoli’s main east-west motorway (the Second Ring Road) during daylight hours. Following the incident, Juma was quickly transported to the Abu Saleem Hospital in Tripoli for emergency surgery. Later, he was flown to Rome for further specialized treatment for injuries sustained in his leg.
