When three pro-Polisario leftist MEPs act as ‘agents provocateurs’

Three far-left members of the European Parliament, known for their support for Polisario separatists, failed to force their way at Laayoune’s airport, when Moroccan authorities declared them persona non grata and asked them to return on board the same airplane that brought them from the Canary Islands.

The three pro-separatists Isa Serra (Spain), Jussi Saramo (Finland) et Catarina Martins (Portugal) indulged in a fake news campaign that was parroted by Algerian media.
They claimed to have landed in the Sahara as part of a “mission” to the Sahara territory, right after they participated in a separatist propaganda event and hoisted Polisario flags.

The Maevirk parliamentarians were either mis-led by the Polisario and Algerian propaganda depicting Laayoune as a “terra nulius” or sought media attention, as they shared videos and fake news online in a grandstanding act.

Co-chairman of the joint Morocco-EU parliamentary commission Lahcen Haddad said the three MEPs were acting without permission from the European Parliament nor prior consultation with the joint parliamentary commission.

The unannounced visit by the three MEPs showed a lack of respect for “Moroccan sovereignty,” he said.
