Four Moroccan truck drivers go missing on Burkina Faso-Niger border
Four Moroccan drivers and three trucks went missing on the border between Dori in Burkina Faso and Tera in Niger, well-informed sources said.
The drivers on board the three trucks left Dori towards Tera unprotected and unescorted despite the risk of terrorist activity in the area, the sources said.
On January 11, 18 Burkinabe soldiers and civilians were killed between Dori and Seytenga.
Morocco’s foreign ministry has formed a crisis cell and the Moroccan embassy together with Burkinabe authorities are monitoring efforts to locate the drivers.
Trucks have often been targets of terrorists in the area, where the Islamic State in the Sahel is operating.
Burkinabe authorities have been organizing truck convoys escorted by the army to protect them against terrorist attacks in border areas with Niger and Mali.
