Morocco poised to strengthen air force with Mirage 2000

In recent weeks, several reports mentioned that Morocco is about to foster its air defense capabilities with the reception of 30 Mirage 2000 from the UAE.

French radio, RFI, has become the latest media to raise an imminent transfer of the mighty French fighter jet to Morocco from the UAE, as the latter prepares to receive a batch of 80 Rafale F4.

These jets will complement Morocco’s existing fleet of F-16s and upgraded Mirage F1s, providing a more modern and capable air force

The UAE has 68 Mirage 2000 that it will put into retirement, half of which will go to Morocco by 2027.

The same year, Morocco is expected to receive a new batch of 25 F-16 fighter jets, adding to an existing fleet of 23 enhanced fighters.

Morocco has also ordered 36 offensive Apache helicopters and has so far acquired 19 Bayraktar TB2 drones from Turkey.

These acquisitions are expected to enhance Morocco’s air deterrence capabilities in a restive region, as well as its precision-strike arsenal.
