Moroccan police arrest Interpol-wanted French, Swedish nationals

Marrakech police arrested on Friday evening a French national wanted internationally for attempted murder.

Carried out in coordination with Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), the arrest was based on an international warrant issued by French judicial authorities.

The 25-year-old suspect was in Morocco illegally and was apprehended during a routine search. A suspected forged passport was found in his possession.

A background check through Interpol’s database revealed that the individual was subject to a Red Notice by Interpol, following a request from French judicial authorities. Investigations indicate his involvement in an attempted murder case, making him a fugitive under a judicial sentence.

The suspect was placed in police custody and procedures are underway to notify French authorities of the arrest through international security cooperation channels.

The French citizen’s arrest came one day after Moroccan police at Bab Sebta checkpoint arrested a Swedish young man, wanted under an international arrest warrant, for his alleged involvement in the possession of assault weapons for criminal purposes, according to security sources.

The suspect is currently in police custody pending extradition procedures.

These arrests are part of Morocco’s commitment to implementing international security cooperation mechanisms, particularly in the pursuit and apprehension of individuals sought internationally for transnational crimes.

Interpol has repeatedly praised Morocco’s contributions in facilitating the arrest of suspects involved in various crimes.
