Morocco earmarks $1.4 bln to boost job creation in 2025

Morocco will spend 1.4 billion dollars next year to promote employment, including through different training programs and measures in the countryside, the head of the government said.

Unemployment has surged in Morocco in recent years to hit an unprecedented 13.6% as drought forces the farming sector to shed more jobs in the countryside.

The budget would help address some issues facing employment including water management as the government also plans “practical measures” benefiting small and medium-sized enterprises, which are a lever for job creation, while emphasizing training to accelerate integration into the job market, the head of the government said in a statement following a cabinet meeting.

Agriculture and fisheries offers most jobs in Morocco, followed by services and the industry.
