Morocco seeks more Russian wheat
Moroccan wheat traders FNCL and the Russian grain trader’s union (Rusgrain) signed a deal to promote Russian grain exports to Morocco as the north African Kingdom seeks to diversify suppliers and build strategic stockpiles of key staples.
The deal was signed on November 29 during a visit of a delegation of 37 Russian wheat traders to Morocco, le360 reported.
The deal could be extended beyond one year to promote the import of Russian cereals and grains into Morocco, FNCL head Omar Yakoubi said.
Eduard Zernin, Board Chairman of the Union of Grain Exporters, who led the Russian delegation, said Russia exported 650,000 metric tons of wheat since the start of the season.
“”Our key, so to speak, home markets are Middle Eastern and African nations. Morocco is the jewel of the region and is therefore one of our priority markets for supplies,” Zernin told Russian news agency Tass.
“Starting from the 2024-2025 season, according to the July-October results, Morocco has joined the ranks of our top ten wheat buyers, and we have become the leader in wheat deliveries to the Kingdom,” he said.
