Sahara: Grenada reiterates support for Morocco’s autonomy plan & welcomes Royal Initiatives for Sahel
The Government of Grenada has reiterated unwavering support to the autonomy plan offered by Morocco for the Sahara under the Kingdom’s sovereignty, saying the plan is the ONLY “credible, serious and realistic solution” to the Sahara regional dispute.
The supportive stand was expressed by Prime Minister of this Caribbean country Dickon Mitchell following his talks held Thursday in Rabat with Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita.
In a joint statement released following their talks, Grenada also voiced backing to the UN exclusive framework to achieve a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the Sahara regional conflict
Mr. Dickon Mitchell commended the Royal Initiatives in the Sahel and the Atlantic seeking “shared peace, stability and prosperity” and “offering unprecedented opportunities to promote regional integration and cooperation”.
Grenada’s PM paid tribute to the vision spearheaded by King Mohammed VI for South-South cooperation”, a vision which reinforces “stability and security in the Caribbean.
Grenada, a member of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), also welcomed the opening of an OECS Embassy in Rabat (October 18, 2018) and a Consulate General in Dakhla (March 31, 2022), which offer a significant opportunity to further strengthen exchanges between the Kingdom of Morocco and the six Eastern Caribbean States.
Talks between Mitchell and Bourita were crowned with the signing of a cooperation roadmap for the 2025-2027 period, focusing on academic & vocational training, technical cooperation, agriculture, food security, climate change resilience, trade, and investment.
