Morocco’s Al Boraq among six high speed trains chosen by UN to celebrate world sustainable transport day

The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) issued stamps on 26 November to commemorate World Sustainable Transport Day featuring six high-speed trains, including Al Boraq operated by Morocco’s national railway company.

“Al Boraq”, the first of its kind in Africa, links the industrial hubs of Tangier to Casablanca through Kénitra and Rabat. The train travels at a speed of up to 320 km/h reducing the travel duration from Tangier to Casablanca to 2 h 10min, instead of 4 h 45min.

Al Boraq service has helped Morocco to cut CO2 emissions, by reducing substantially cars traffic and coach trips. It also contributed to a decrease in road accidents

Annually, the United Nations recognizes the important role of safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable transport systems for all, in supporting sustainable economic growth, improving the social welfare of people, and enhancing international cooperation and trade among countries.

The six stamps issued this year feature high speed trains of Amtrak Acela (USA), JR Shinkansen (Japan), Al Boraq (Morocco), Fuxing (China), INOUI (France) and ICE (Germany).
