Interpol-wanted French-Algerian National apprehended in Marrakech
A French national of Algerian origin, who was subject to an international arrest warrant issued by French judicial authorities, was arrested in Marrakech on Monday.
The arrest of the suspect, aged 38, was conducted on the basis of accurate tips provided by the National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGST) services, a security source said.
The DGSN checked the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) database and identified the suspect as being subject to an international “red notice” issued at the behest of Interpol’s central office in Paris, for his alleged belonging to a criminal network involved in money laundering.
The suspect was remanded into police custody, pending his referral to the public prosecutor’s office, the same source stated. Morocco’s national central office “Interpol Office in Rabat” was commissioned to notify its French counterpart of this arrest under the extradition procedure.
This arrest is part of strengthening ties of international security cooperation, as well as Moroccan security services’ efforts to track down persons wanted internationally for cross-border crimes.
