LARC Morocco SAS to explore lithium in Sahara

LARC Morocco SAS, a subsidiary of Lithium Africa Resources Corp, will be exploring for lithium and gold in the Bir El Mami area, in the Dakhla Oued Eddahab region in the Sahara.

A deal was signed in that regard with the Moroccan office for hydrocarbons and mines (ONHYM) as part of a strategy to promote the production of strategic metals that are required for energy transition and the country’s industrial push.

Lithium Africa, specializing in lithium exploration, holds several licenses covering an area of 2,500 km² in Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, and Zimbabwe.

The company has created a joint venture with the Chinese group Ganfeng Lithium, which specializes in the production and commercialization of lithium batteries, to develop the exploration of this mineral in Africa.

Lithium is a key component in the EV battery industry. Lithium batteries can store a large amount of energy relative to their weight, making them ideal for EVs where space and weight are critical factors.
