Spanish PM expresses gratitude to Morocco for supporting relief operations in flood-affected Valencia

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressed his gratitude to Morocco for its support to relief operations following the devastating floods in the Valencia region.

Sánchez highlighted the efforts made by rescue teams from Morocco, Portugal and France, and emphasized their critical role in assisting the affected areas.

“In these challenging weeks that Spain experienced due to the storm, international and European solidarity has been remarkable,” the Spanish leader wrote on Friday in a message on social platform X.
“All of Spain thanks you,” he added.

Following the floods that devastated several regions in Spain, King Mohammed VI had instructed the Interior Minister to inform his Spanish peer of Morocco’s full readiness to dispatch rescue teams and provide all necessary assistance to Spain to cope with this natural disaster.

Morocco was thus one of the first countries to offer aid, pledging to send trucks and operators to support the cleanup and recovery efforts.

Actually, a Moroccan convoy, comprising 24 vacuum-pump trucks and 70 operators, arrived in Spain on Wednesday to assist with relief efforts in the Valencia region, which was severely impacted by Storm Dana.

The Moroccan teams was tasked with the arduous work of removing and transporting vast quantities of mud and debris from affected areas.

As put by Morocco’s ambassador to Madrid, Karima Benyaich, this support testifies to Morocco’s firm determination to actively contribute to the rescue efforts in a spirit of mutual aid and fraternity with Spain.
