President Macron visits Rabat to cement French-Moroccan ties

At the invitation of King Mohammed VI, President Emmanuel Macron is making a three-day state visit to Morocco starting Oct 28, marking a new beginning on solid foundations for the forward-looking Moroccan-French relations.

The visit is part of the momentum ushered by Paris support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara territory, which was expressed in a letter by Macron to King Mohammed VI last July.

Following the letter, Morocco’s king had invited Macron to visit the Kingdom and thanked France for its position in line with history and Morocco’s legitimate right to safeguard its territorial integrity.

At least nine ministers are accompanying Macron on his third official trip to Morocco, during which the two countries will sign major investments deals in key strategic areas including renewable energies, water, and transport infrastructure.

During his visit, Macron will meet the king, speak to the head of the Moroccan government and Moroccan speakers of the two parliament’s houses. He will also deliver a speech before members of the Parliament after visiting the Mohammed V mausoleum.

Macron will also chair the closing ceremony of a Moroccan French business summit and meet members of the French diaspora.

The French delegation accompanying Macron also includes leading French firms such as LVMH, Veolia, Orange, Transavia, TotalEnergies, and Airbus International.

“We plan to rebuild our ties, as we look forward to the upcoming decades,” said French foreign minister Jean Noel Barrot on French weekly La Tribune.
