France reaffirms commitment to providing technical support for Libyan elections

French Ambassador to Libya, Mostafa Mihraje, reaffirmed France’s dedication to supporting Libya’s electoral process by offering technical and advisory assistance aimed at enhancing the High National Elections Commission’s (HNEC) capacity to manage the upcoming elections. This commitment was emphasized during his meeting with HNEC Chairman, Imad Al-Sayeh, at the Commission’s headquarters in Tripoli, on Monday October 14.

Mihraje commended the HNEC for its ongoing efforts to organize free, fair, and transparent elections, in line with international standards. He highlighted the importance of the commission’s work in shaping Libya’s democratic future and reiterated France’s long-standing support for Libya’s transition toward stability and good governance.

The ambassador’s talks also underscored the broader international community’s backing of Libya’s democratic journey, especially considering the upcoming 2024 municipal council elections. France, alongside other global partners, remains committed to aiding Libya in building robust electoral institutions capable of delivering credible election results. The discussions with the HNEC leadership also served to review the commission’s operational readiness and explore areas where further international cooperation could bolster Libya’s electoral infrastructure and promote democratic integrity.

In a statement following the meeting, HNEC Chairman Imad Al-Sayeh emphasized that international collaboration is critical to the success of Libya’s electoral process, particularly as the country prepares for significant political milestones in 2024.
