Egypt to chair Arab Labor Organization’s Board of Directors for first time in 20 years

Egypt has been elected to lead the Arab Labor Organization (ALO) as President of its Board of Directors for the 101st session, marking the first time in 20 years that the country has held this position. The presidency, which extends until October 2025, was secured during the ALO board meeting held in Cairo on Thursday. Egypt’s Minister of Labor, Mohamed Gobran, was elected to the position, representing Egypt, alongside ALO Director-General Fayez Al Mutairi.

During the session, key issues were addressed, including a comprehensive report on the conditions of workers and residents in the occupied Palestinian territories. The board also reviewed progress on the implementation of decisions from the 100th session of the ALO Board of Directors.

In his speech, Gobran welcomed the delegations and underscored the importance of Arab unity, especially in light of recent statements made by the Israeli prime minister, suggesting that no part of the Middle East is beyond Israel’s reach. Gobran called for stronger collaboration among Arab nations to face such threats and ensure the protection and well-being of the region’s workforce.

The ALO, headquartered in Cairo, continues to play a critical role in addressing labor policies, worker protections, and socioeconomic challenges faced by member States.
