Morocco’s tourism revenue at record $1.75 bln in August
Morocco’s tourist receipt grew 20% in August to a record 17 billion dirhams or $1.75 billion, underscoring a strong recovery of the sector, the tourism ministry said.
In the first eight months this year, travel receipts increased 7% to 76 billion dirhams ($7.8 bln), it said in a statement.
“These results confirm the unprecedented momentum in Moroccan tourism. The record revenue came on the back of an exceptional number of tourist arrivals at 1.8 million in August and 11.8 million since the beginning of the year,” the statement quoted the minister Fatima-Zahra Ammor as saying.
This performance is conducive to Morocco’s tourism roadmap which aims at attracting 17.5 million visitors by 2026.
This summer, European low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and Wizzair have added more new routes connecting Morocco’s tourist hubs to European cities.
Morocco aims to increase tourist arrivals to 26 million by 2030, when the country will co-host the football World Cup together with Spain and Portugal.
