Morocco hopes digital strategy would create 240,000 jobs by 2030

The Moroccan government has launched a digital economy strategy that aims at creating 240 jobs by 2030.

Head of the government gave the figure during the launch of the strategy which covers the training of 100,000 youth annually on digital economy jobs.

the government has earmarked 11 billion dirhams ($ 1.1 billion) to the strategy covering 2024 to 2026.

Minister for digital transition and administrative reform, Ghita Mezzour, said the strategy was conducive to Morocco’s development push and the modernization of the civil service by easing services access to the citizen.

She hopes the new strategy would increase the contribution of the digital economy to 100 billion dirhams ($10 billion) in Morocco’s GDP.

The strategy also aims at increasing the number of households benefiting from high-speed internet to 5 million by 2030 from 1.5 million in 2022, she said.

It also targets 70% access to 5G among households by 2030, the minister said.

The strategy also provides for upgrading telecoms infrastructure and cloud services.
