Atlantic gas pipeline multilateral deal expected by end of 2024- Moroccan official

A final deal involving all countries that will benefit from the gas pipeline that will connect Nigeria to Morocco is expected by year’s end, head of Morocco’s mines and hydrocarbons agency ONHYM Amina Benkhadra said.

The project has been spearheaded by Morocco’s King as a key component of the Kingdom’s south-south cooperation approach.

It has been backed by former and current Nigerian presidents as well as the West African economic grouping, ECOWAS.

The multilateral deal will define the terms of use and management of the pipeline, ONHYM said in an earlier statement.

The first phase will connect the existing Nigeria-Ghana pipeline to Côte d’Ivoire, while the second phase will link Morocco’s Maghreb- Europe pipeline to Senegal. The final step consists in linking Senegal to Côte d’Ivoire.

The project is designed to promote regional energy market integration, while helping 13 African states meet their energy security goals.
