Moroccan authorities on alert after incitement to mass migration on social media
Morocco has strengthened its security forces in the north to prevent potential mass migration attempts following a campaign of incitement to illegal crossings on social media.
Videos shared by local news outlets and social media showed a heavy police deployment near the Spanish-occupied enclave of Ceuta.
Authorities have arrested at least 60 people for their involvement in spreading rumors to encourage the youth to illegally migrate to the enclave.
Local media reported that many candidates to illegal migration have been returned to their hometowns.
The migrants include many Algerians who enter Morocco without visa from airports.
So far this year, Morocco foiled 45,000 migration attempts and last year it aborted 75,000 attempts.
