Moroccan-Ethiopian defense cooperation reviewed in Rabat
Means to further expand defense cooperation between Morocco and Ethiopia were discussed at separate meetings in Rabat between Moroccan military officials and Field Marshal Birhanu Jula Gelalcha, Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defence Forces, who is on an official visit to the Kingdom at the head of a large military delegation this August 25 through 29.
Field Marshal Gelalcha first reviewed with Minister in charge of National Defence Administration Abdellatif Loudiyi bilateral cooperation in the field of defense and opportunities to further strengthen this cooperation.The two officials expressed satisfaction with the excellent level of friendship and cooperation relations between the two countries, as well as their shared willingness to consolidate these exemplary ties in the future, the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces said in a press release.
The Ethiopian Official later on held a meeting with Inspector General of the FAR and Commander of the South Zone, the Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid to discuss the various aspects of bilateral cooperation, and ways of strengthening this cooperation and extending it to other areas of common interest, the press release said.
The two sides welcomed the level of relations between the two armies.
Relations between Morocco and Ethiopia, rooted in a rich and deep history, have been revitalized since the historic visit King Mohammed VI paid to Addis Ababa in 2016. These relations are gearing towards a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening the two countries’ common objectives while actively contributing to the development and stability of the African continent, the press release said.
