Royal Air Maroc becomes transporter of humanitarian aid in Africa, confirming Morocco’s African solidarity

Morocco’s flag carrier, Royal Air Maroc, has partnered with NGO Airlink to transport humanitarian aid to West and Central Africa, confirming the strong commitment of the North African Kingdom and its solidarity with African communities affected by humanitarian crises.

Under an agreement signed lately with the philanthropic organization, the Moroccan airline company pledged to transport 50 tons of humanitarian cargo over the next year and provide logistical support across West and Central Africa.

Royal Air Maroc also pledged to provide relief nonprofit Airlink passenger tickets for humanitarian personnel and a charitable cash donation to support Airlink operations.

The Moroccan airline’s extensive Africa route network will significantly expand Airlink’s operational capabilities, particularly in West and Central Africa, including the Sahel region, where communities endure severe impacts from prolonged and complex humanitarian crises.

These crises are compounded by climate shocks, violence, food insecurity, and forced displacement, affecting 33 million people in need of urgent humanitarian assistance and protection.

Royal Air Maroc’s support will notably benefit crisis-affected communities in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Central African Republic (including refugees from Sudan), the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, and Niger.

Under the royal leadership, Morocco is tirelessly working to develop South-South cooperation based on solidarity and is engaged for the development of Africa, said Abdelhamid Addou, CEO of Royal Air Maroc.

For his part, Airlink Chief Steven J. Smith said the Moroccan airline company’s support will increase NGO’s capacity to transport humanitarian aid and assistance to countries where partners face significant barriers to response, such as Cameroon and the Central African Republic in the Sahel.
