South Africa arrests 95 Libyans in secret military training camp

South African authorities apprehended 95 Libyan nationals during a raid on a suspected secret military training camp, AP and local media reported.

The camp was discovered at a farm in White River, Mpumalanga province, approximately 360 kilometers northeast of Johannesburg.

The Libyans claimed they entered the country on study visas for security guard training, but police investigations suggest they received military training instead.

The Newsroom Afrika TV news channel broadcast images of the camp, revealing large green tents arranged in a military-style formation.

The arrested individuals, dressed in civilian clothing, were seen lining up during the operation.

Local government official Jackie Macie stated that investigations are ongoing, and authorities suspect similar secret camps near two other towns in Mpumalanga province.

The region, which borders Mozambique and Swaziland, is a concern for South African authorities due to illegal immigration.
