Morocco’s airport police arrests Interpol-flagged British citizen

Morocco’s police officers arrested an Interpol-flagged British National at Marrakech Menara Airport on Thursday.

The 31-year-old British citizen was subject to an international arrest warrant based on his alleged involvement in drug trafficking, Barlamane news website reported, citing a security source.

After verifying the Interpol database, the police identified the individual as the subject of a “red notice” issued at the behest of the National Central Bureau in Manchester, UK, in connection with his alleged involvement in a criminal network in Scotland.

The suspect is accused of illegal drug trafficking, including cocaine, cannabis resin, and synthetic drugs such as diacetylmorphine, and amphetamines, according to the security source.

He was remanded into police custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.

The Interpol Bureau in Rabat will notify the relevant British authorities of his detention before initiating extradition procedures.
