Moroccan police contribute to Paris Olympics security effort
Thanks to its long experience in thwarting terrorist attacks, a Moroccan police delegation has arrived in Paris to participate in securing the Olympic Games.
French authorities have asked for the help of the Moroccan police to secure the global sporting event. An agreement has been signed in this regard during the visit to Paris by Morocco’s police chief Abdellatif Hammouchi, daily newspaper Assabah reported.
The Moroccan delegation will help secure stadiums and the venue of the games’ opening. It includes experts in bombs, telecommunications, stadium security, and information analysis among others.
The Moroccan police have a long experience in helping friendly countries secure global championships, most recently the Qatar World Cup.
A major security operation is under way in France to protect the Games from extremists looking to use the high-profile world sporting events to commit acts of violence.
There have been 60 arrests for terror-related offenses over the past eight months in Europe.
French security forces began locking down large parts of central Paris on Thursday ahead of the hugely complex Olympics opening ceremony next week on the Seine river.
