Six most dangerous cities in Africa, all south African

Six South African cities topped the list of African cities with the highest criminality rates by mid 2024, Numeo platform said in a recent ranking.

Pietermaritzburg came first as the most criminality plagued city followed by five other South African cities: Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.

Issues related to drugs, kidnappings, and violent crimes are prevalent in these South African cities, according to the platform.

South Africa also has one of the highest murder rates in the world, with an average of 75 a day

Nigeria’s biggest city lagos came seventh followed by Namibia’s Windhoek, Zimbabwe’s Harare, and Kenya’s Nairobi.

Criminality in Africa is worsened by inflation, unemployment, poverty, and economic inequalities in demographically dense urban centers where more young people turn to illicit activities.
