Boko Haram terrorists flee to Chad and Cameroon as noose tightens
The Multinational Joint Task Force in Lake Chad has stepped up operations against Boko Haram and Islamic State terrorists who escaped to Chad and Cameroon, the task force said.
The task force has launched a major operation, dubbed Lake Sanity 2, to destroy all terrorist camps around Lake Chad.
The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) is a combined multinational formation, comprising mostly military units from Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria. It is headquartered in N’Djamena and is mandated to bring an end to the Boko Haram insurgency.
The terrorists attacked villages on the border between Niger and Cameroon killing an unspecified number of villagers.
The Task force said the deceased seen in a video on social media are some of the more than 70 Boko Haram and Islamic State terrorists “neutralized” in Sunday’s attacks.
Nigeria has been struggling against Boko Haram terrorism since 2009, in a war that left at least 40,000 people dead.
