Morocco’s King congratulates Mauritania’s President El Ghazouani on his re-election victory
King Mohammed VI has sent his congratulations to Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, who has been re-elected to a second term as Mauritania’s President.
In his message, the Moroccan Sovereign wished Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani success in his missions and reaffirmed steadfast determination to work with him to enhance further cooperation set between the two countries which are building a “model partnership” based on strong bonds of brotherhood and solidarity uniting the Moroccan and Mauritanian peoples.
Mauritania’s President Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani has been reelected for a second term, after receiving 56.12 % of the vote in the first round of the presidential poll, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) said Monday.
His campaign focused on pledge to provide security, economic growth and stability in a region rocked by coups and violence. His main rival Biram Dah Abeid obtained 22.1% of the votes.
The turnout was 55% of the two million eligible voters, the commission said.
