Distribution of Morocco’s medical aid to Palestinians in Gaza starts

The distribution of Moroccan medical aid, dispatched to the Palestinians in the Gaza strip, on instructions of King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, started on Tuesday.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) received at the “Karam Abu Salem” crossing 40 tons of medical supplies, including devices for treating burns, surgical and traumatological emergencies, as well as essential medicines, and began distributing them in the first stage to the “Al Amal” hospital in Khan Younes.

The aid was transported through the same unprecedented land route used during the food aid operation deployed last Ramadan.

This aid is meant to strengthen the functioning of the few hospitals that are still operational in the Gaza Strip and to increase their performance so that they can continue to provide vital medical and health services.

According to PRCS spokeswoman Nebal Farsakh, this aid will then be distributed to medical service providers and public hospitals in the Gaza Strip, including the Red Crescent hospital in Khan Younès and other health points set up throughout the Gaza Strip.

In a statement to MAP, Farsakh said the PRCS commends King Mohammed VI’s initiatives and his sincere efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip through the deployment of this humanitarian medical operation in this critical moment when the few operational hospitals in Gaza are suffering from lack of medical products and medicines.

This humanitarian medical operation, consisting of 40 tons of medical products and medicines, comes at a time when the medical sector in the Gaza Strip is on the verge of collapse due to the scarcity of medical products and medicines, especially after the occupier closed the Rafah land crossing more than 40 days ago, she said, noting that no medical aid has been delivered to this Palestinian territory.

In a related development, Palestinian Minister of Al-Quds Affairs, Ashraf Al Aawar, who is leading a delegation visiting Morocco at the invitation of Rabat-based Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, praised King Mohammed VI’s noble initiatives to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians.

Following talks with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, the Palestinian Minister of Al-Quds Affairs expressed in a statement to the press the heartfelt thanks of President Mahmoud Abbas to the King for his noble and generous initiatives to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip through the deployment of a new humanitarian medical aid operation.

Al Aawar added that the Palestinian people hope that other Arab countries will follow the example of Morocco in providing aid to the Palestinian population, particularly in Gaza.

The Palestinian Minister also indicated that talks with Bourita enabled the members of the delegation to give an overview of the current situation in the Gaza Strip and to share the suffering endured by the Palestinian people at this difficult time.

From Paris, Jean-Yves de Cara, Professor Emeritus at Sorbonne University Paris Cité, commented that the medical aid, ordered by King Mohammed VI for the Palestinian population of Gaza, is a gesture of generosity that aligns with a well-established royal tradition.

“This gesture of generosity, largely financed from the Sovereign’s personal funds, is not surprising. It reflects a well-established Royal tradition and illustrates the effective realism of HM the King, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee,” said the jurist in a statement to MAP, expressing “great admiration for the actions of the Sovereign that follow in the footsteps of his illustrious ancestors.”

Morocco, under the leadership of the King, also undertakes highly appreciated concrete actions, notably through Bayt Mal Al-Quds, an offshoot of Al-Quds Committee, “in a perspective of calming and supporting the suffering Palestinian people,” noted Jean-Yves de Cara. “It is the mark of a great Sovereign with a big heart.”
