Sahara: Slovenia supports Morocco’s Autonomy Plan offering realistic & enduring peaceful solution

Slovenia’s foreign minister Mrs. Tanja Fajon has voiced her country’s strong support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan offered for the Sahara under its sovereignty, saying the plan is “a good basis for reaching a final and consensual solution.”

In a joint statement issued in Rabat following her talks held Tuesday with Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita, the Slovenian official said her country backs the UN-led process and Morocco’s serious and credible efforts engaged to achieve a pragmatic, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution to the Sahara issue.

The two ministers insisted on the UN-exclusive role in the political process engaged for the settlement of the Sahara conflict on the basis of the UN Security Council resolutions, including resolution 2703 of October 30, 2023.

They also expressed support for the efforts made by the UN Sahara envoy to advance the political process in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

Slovenia is the 16th European Union country that supports the “serious and credible” Autonomy Plan presented by Morocco in 2007 as the only acceptable and doable solution to the Sahara regional conflict.
