Senegal reiterates unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity

Senegal has reiterated its steady support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, confirming the commitment of the administration of Bassirou Faye to centuries-old friendly ties with Morocco.

The remark was made by Senegal’s foreign minister Yassine Fall in a joint statement following a visit in Rabat, during which she held talks with her Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita.

Fall reaffirmed Senegal’s support for Morocco’s autonomy plan as “the only credible and realistic solution to resolving the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.”

The UN is the only framework to work for a realistic and lasting solution to the dispute, she said.

Senegal is among the African, Arab, and Caribbean nations that opened a consulate in Morocco’s Sahara.

During her talks with Bourita, Fall praised the leadership of King Mohammed VI and highlighted his efforts to promote African peace, stability, and social and economic development.

In this respect, she welcomed the Atlantic initiative, launched by the Moroccan monarch to promote regional economic integration and offer landlocked Sahel states access to global trade through opening up Morocco’s ports and infrastructure to their goods.
