Preparations are underway to launch 5G internet service in Morocco before 2030, when the country will co-host the world cup together with Spain and Portugal, digital transition and administration reform minister delegate Ghita Mezzour said.
The official told MPs that the launch of 5G is part of Morocco’s 2030 digital strategy, and that the new internet service will add speed to online shared data.
The new service will have to be available by the time Morocco hosts the World Cup, she said, adding that stadiums and championship volumes will be equipped with 5G.
Meanwhile, Morocco is working to expand internet coverage in rural areas in the upcoming months, she said.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the key role of digital connectivity. While high-speed internet was once a luxury, it’s now essential for work, education, healthcare, and social connections.
