New Senegalese President receives Moroccan delegation representing King Mohammed VI at his inauguration ceremony

The new President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, received, on Tuesday in Diamniadio near Dakar, the Moroccan delegation, led by the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, who represented King Mohammed VI at the inauguration ceremony.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the swearing-in and inauguration ceremony of President-elect Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

During the meeting, the Moroccan delegation conveyed King Mohammed VI’s congratulations to the President of Senegal on his inauguration, and his wishes of prosperity and progress to the Senegalese people.

Akhannouch’s trip to Senegal, accompanied by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, came on the instructions of King Mohammed VI, the only Head of State, apart from the leaders of the sub-region, to have received an invitation to take part in the inauguration ceremony.

The invitation reflects, if need be, the depth of the unfailing bonds of brotherhood, solidarity and consideration uniting Morocco and Senegal.

Several pundits, including Senegalese researcher Massamba Gueye, commented that the invitation underscores the enduring fraternal bonds between Senegal and Morocco and stands as a token of the solid friendship between the two nations.

Massamba Gueye, an authority on Moroccan-African relations, emphasized the deep-rooted collaboration and enduring friendship between Senegal and Morocco. He highlighted the profound cultural, economic, political, and spiritual ties between Dakar and Rabat that transcend temporal and governmental shifts.

“The Kingdom of Morocco serves as a spiritual beacon for Senegal and West Africa, while also acting as an economic powerhouse committed to sharing development opportunities across the African continent,” Gueye noted.
