Nigeria secures financial requirements for Niger rail link

Nigeria said it had secured 1.3 billion dollars needed to build a rail connection with neighboring Niger, a landlocked country.

The news was announced by Nigeria’s transport minister Ahmed Alkali who said the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) would provide 85 percent of the money while the Nigerian government would provide 15 percent.

The recent visit by Mr. Tang Zhigang, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation, and his delegation, has further bolstered optimism for the rail project’s potential to lay the groundwork for future prosperity between the two nations, Nigeria transport ministry said in a statement.

“The Kano-Katsina-Jibiya-Maradi rail line is a testament to our shared history and ambition for economic advancement. It will create a legacy of wealth and opportunities for Nigeria and the Niger Republic,” it said
