African Lion 2024: Morocco, U.S.A., partners hold final planning meeting in Agadir

Representatives of the Royal Armed Forces, the U.S. army and their allies are putting final touches to the preparations for the upcoming multinational military exercise “African Lion” 2024.

The military planners started this Monday a five-day meeting at the Southern zone HQ of the Royal Armed forces. The agenda includes a planning exercise for senior officers, combined military manoeuvres, civil-military operations and decontamination exercises showing how to remove chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) material from equipment and humans.

These exercises seek to enhance interoperability and response capabilities of multinational forces, said a press release issued by the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.

The African Lion 2024 is planned May 20-31 in Agadir, Tan-Tan, Tata, Kénitra, Benguérir and Tifnit. The exercise aims to strengthen military cooperation between Morocco and the United States and foster communication between the armed forces of the participating countries for shared peace, security and stability in the region.

This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the African Lion exercise series. It has started as a bilateral exercise between the U.S. Marines and the Moroccan Army, but the drills have grown every year to include three additional African host nations, multiple African and European partners and allies, and the entire U.S. joint and total force.
