Central African Bloc removes sanctions on Gabon

The Economic Community of Central African States lifted sanctions on Gabon and decided to re-integrate the country to the bloc, after six months of membership suspension after the coup.

The decision was confirmed by Burundi’s foreign minister following a bloc’s meeting in Equatorial Guinea.

The country’s military authorities promised to restore democratic governance in the country by 2025.

The African Union has also suspended Gabon following the coup that ousted Ali Bongo.

With the coup, Gabon has joined Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Niger which have been led by military rulers.
