US State Department magazine highlights long-standing, multifaceted partnership with Morocco, an exporter of peace in a challenging region

State Magazine, the U.S. State Department Magazine, has highlighted, in its March issue, the “enduring, multifaceted and long-standing” partnership between the United States and Morocco.

The March issue of State Magazine devotes its “Post of the Month” section to Morocco and its strategic partnership with the United States. It recalls the recognition in 2020 by the United States of the full sovereignty of Morocco over its southern provinces via a presidential proclamation and illustrates the article with a photo of the full map of Morocco with its Sahara.

Morocco “is a country with which we have a deep, rich, multifaceted partnership,” U.S. Ambassador to Morocco Puneet Talwar was quoted by the Magazine as saying. The Kingdom is “a very reliable and solid partner,” he insisted.

The diplomat deemed it critical to maintain the pace to advance areas of mutual interest and work on the challenges the two countries face.

The Magazine states further that Morocco is rapidly modernizing its infrastructure and economy to capitalize on its role as a strategic hub in the region and world-class travel destination. It renews the United States’ commitment to continue to stand by the Kingdom, an Atlantic neighbor, ally, and friend of America.

State Magazine, which underscores Rabat’s commitment to African development, also lays emphasis on the “pivotal role” played by Morocco, one of the United States’ largest non-NATO allies, in regional security and counterterrorism efforts, saying that Morocco has emerged as an “exporter of peace” and stability in a challenging region.

Morocco’s strategic location and its ties to Arab, African, and European cultures make the Kingdom a “key partner” in addressing challenges affecting the Middle East and North Africa region, the magazine states, adding that Morocco is also a vital portal between Africa and Europe.

“You won’t find any other country in Africa that’s as stable and as reliable an ally as Morocco,” the Magazine quotes David Fisher, political counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Rabat as saying, and recalls that Morocco holds a “special place” in the history of U.S. foreign relations, being the first country to have recognized the independence of the United States in 1777.

State Magazine also mentions the “African Lion”, “the largest annual military training exercise on the continent.”
