Africa: Spiritual security, focus on the role of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema at a conference in Kampala

Participants in a scientific conference, held in Kampala, Uganda, Feb.24-25, highlighted the role and action of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema in the achievement and preservation of spiritual security in Africa.

The speakers at this conference organized by the Ugandan section of the Foundation, underlined the importance of stability and spiritual security in Africa, and welcomed the role of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema in this sense, through its actions in the unification of the efforts of the Ulema in Africa, in accordance with the vision of its President, King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful.

Ugandan Deputy Prime Minister, Lukia Isanga Nakadama, who attended the opening of the conference, hailed the action of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, as well as its objectives which consist of achieving spiritual security in Africa. She expressed the will of her country to cooperate with Morocco and benefit from its experience, with a view to strengthening relations between the two brotherly countries.

The deputy Prime Minister had commended, on the eve of the conference, Morocco’s religious model, based on the values of tolerance, openness and cooperation.

Lukia Isanga Nakadama made the remarks while receiving a delegation from the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema. She underlined the depth of Moroccan-Ugandan relations, and praised the Moroccan religious model, which is based on the values of tolerance, openness and cooperation.

The President of the Foundation’s Uganda Section, Sheikh Ibrahim Sali, affirmed in an opening address that achieving spiritual security requires complementary and comprehensive efforts on the part of individuals, ulema, institutions, and society. This is actually the objective of the Foundation through its various programs aimed at strengthening teaching and scientific research, preserving African heritage, consolidating spiritual and ethical values in Africa, as well as the promotion of interreligious dialogue, which reflects the Foundation’s commitment to consolidating spiritual security in the continent, Sheikh Ibrahim Sali said.

For his part, Chargé de mission within the Foundation, Othman Sqalli Houssaini, said, in an address on behalf of the Moroccan delegation, that one of the goals of the institution is to preserve spiritual security in Africa. The Foundation does not replace any official or private institution in any country, but it is willing to cooperate with any party that adopts the same principles and objectives, he said.

Canon Grace Kissou, who represented the Secretary General of the Ugandan Interreligious Council, welcomed the King’s initiative to create the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, and highlighted the initiatives and the conferences organized by this institution, with a view to consecrating the values of cohabitation and dialogue between followers of different religions.

Taking the floor, the representative of the High Council of Islamic Affairs in Uganda and Mufti of the country, Shaban Mubaje, stressed that the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema is an important partner in the efforts aimed at achieving spiritual security in Africa, and welcomed its actions in this area, through the support provided to scientific research and consultation with regard to the resolution of the spiritual and intellectual crises experienced by modern societies.

The conference, held under the theme “The role of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema in achieving spiritual security in Africa,” was attended by several religious figures, politicians, and diplomats.
