Libya willing to restore air connectivity, open a shipping line with Morocco

Libya has expressed its willingness to restore air connectivity with Morocco and its commitment to any initiative aimed at opening a shipping line between the two countries.

This came at a meeting in Rabat between Libyan Minister of Transport Salem Al Shahoubi, and his Moroccan peer Mohammed Abdeljalil on the sidelines of the high-level ministerial conference on middle-income countries held in Rabat Feb. 5-6 under the theme “Solutions to Address Development Challenges of Middle-Income Countries in a Changing World.”

During the meeting, Al Shahoubi expressed his country’s willingness to reopen air connectivity with Morocco with a view to encouraging and promoting economic exchanges between the two countries, and contributing to the development of cooperation relations in various fields, the Moroccan Ministry of Transport said in a press release.

The Libyan official added that his country is ready to commit to any initiative aimed at opening a shipping line between the two countries, to promote bilateral trade and contribute to the Royal Initiative meant to enhance maritime connectivity with the countries bordering the Atlantic Ocean.

The two parties commended the excellent relations of brotherhood and cooperation binding the two countries, and underlined their shared willingness to strengthen their cooperation in the fields of transport and sustainable development, the press release said.

The two parties agreed in this vein to step up meetings of bilateral technical committees to examine ways of strengthening cooperation between Morocco and Libya, and to form a working team to draw up memorandums of understanding.

They also agreed to bolster the exchange of experience and expertise in the fields of transport, and to offer Libyan skills training in Moroccan institutions, particularly in the field of civil aviation safety.

On the sidelines of his participation in the High-Level Ministerial Conference on Middle-Income Countries, the Libyan official also conferred with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
