Dominican Republic, Eswatini and Comoros Reaffirm Steadfast Backing to Morocco’s Autonomy Plan
The Dominican Republic, the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Union of the Comoros have all reiterated their unwavering support for Morocco’s realistic & credible autonomy plan offered for the Sahara under its sovereignty in line with UN Security Council resolutions.
The supportive standing was voiced by the foreign ministers of the three countries during their meetings held separately Tuesday in Rabat with Moroccan FM Nasser Bourita on the sidelines of the High-Level Ministerial Conference on Middle-Income Countries.
Eswatini foreign minister Mrs. Pholile Shakantu said the autonomy plan presented by Morocco in 2007 is the only solution to the Sahara regional conflict, recalling the opening by her country of a Consulate in Laayoune 2020, a move confirming Eswatini recognition of the Moroccannes of the Sahara.
She also praised the strong ties existing between the two countries, stressing the need to enhance further bilateral cooperation in various sectors of common interests.
For his part, Comoros top diplomat Dhoihir Dhoulkamal said: “We renew our unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and continue to support the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as the only serious and pragmatic solution to this regional dispute”.
The Comoros was the first country to open a consulate in Laayoune, he added, lauding the socioeconomic development achieved in the Moroccan Saharan under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
Dominican Deputy Minister of foreign affairs Hugo Francisco Rivera Fernandez also reiterated his country’s strong support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire Saharan territory.
He stressed the importance of working with Morocco to address the challenges facing Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America, particularly in the fields of investment, education and trade.
