Cape Verde renews support for Morocco’s territorial integrity

Cape Verde’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Rui Alberto de Figueiredo Soares reiterated, Monday, his country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity.

In a statement to the press following talks with his Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita, in Rabat on the sidelines of the High-Level Ministerial Conference on Middle-Income Countries, Soares reaffirmed Cape Verde’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, and reiterated his country’s position as expressed in the joint communiqué adopted by the joint commission in 2023 in Rabat.

In this communiqué, Cape Verde had reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the autonomy plan, presented by the Kingdom, which constitutes the only credible and realistic solution to settle the dispute over the Sahara.

Cape Verde’s position, which is consistent with the new approach of the United Nations on the Sahara, joins the positions of almost all African countries, the United States, many European countries…

The Cape Verdean official also hailed as “excellent” relations with Morocco and underlined that his talks with Bourita essentially focused on the means to further consolidate bilateral relations.

Talks provided an opportunity to discuss “the situation in our sub-region and the existing concerns that the international community shall address,” he said.
The official who hailed the ongoing development momentum in Morocco, also welcomed the holding, in Rabat, of the High-Level Ministerial Conference on Middle-Income Countries so that these countries, he said, can find the necessary means to finance their development.
