Morocco: Air traffic chatters the records with over 27 Mln Passengers in 2023

The number of passengers transiting through Moroccan airports rose 32% in 2023 to 27 million people, indicating a recovery of the tourism sector and the growing importance of the Casablanca hub for travelers to and from Africa.

The national airports agency ONDA reported that the growth was driven by international traffic with 24,429,325 passengers.

Africa accounted for most traffic with 45%, followed by Europe accounted with 32%, Middle and Far East with 325 and North America with 28%.

The growth was thanks to the opening of new routes which was reflected in the double- digit transit growth in many Moroccan ports, notably Rabat +38%, Marrakech +41% and Agadir +30%.

Morocco plans to attract 17 million tourists by 2026, as it bolsters air and rail travel between cities ahead of the 2030 World Cup.

Moroccan airlines RAM said it plans to launch a tender to buy the 200 mostly medium haul airplanes further bolstering its foothold as an African carrier.
