CAF appoints four African legends ambassadors to promote African football

la Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), the football governing body of the African continent, unveiled Monday January 8 the first names that include Egyptian Ahmed Hassan, the four times AFCON winner, to be signed up in the newly-established CAF Ambassadors program.

Hassan is joined by Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan, Senegal’s El Hadji Diouf and Nigeria’s magician Augustine ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha.

CAF said the criteria for selecting the four legends who are well-known public figures include, but are not limited to sporting and career achievement, social impact and commercial value.

“Football Legends, community role models and other popular personalities will form part of the CAF Ambassadors Program. Their role will include promoting CAF and African Football, as well as playing an important role in other activities including tournaments, charity initiatives, commercial and social events amongst others,” CAF said in a statement.

“The Ambassadors Program is expected to open CAF and its activities to new frontiers with the inclusion of personalities from other fields, and also commercial benefits and social impact across the continent.”

CAF expects the opening of new revenue streams and an improved engagement with fans and other stakeholders globally through collaborations with the legends.

The body also indicated that new celebrities or legends will be unveiled in due time to join the programs.
