2024 Korea-Africa Summit: Another setback for Algerian regime as Seoul refuses Polisario’s participation
The government of South Korea has excluded the Algeria-backed Polisario separatist group from the list of invitees to the 2024 Korea-Africa summit, dealing another hard blow to the Algerian regime.
According to diplomatic sources, Morocco has been invited to take part in the event by Seoul which has affirmed that ONLY sovereign African states recognized by the United Nations are allowed to participate.
The Republic of Korea has thus followed the footsteps of several other superpowers including Russia which has rejected the participation of the Polisario, a phantom entity, in its first and 2nd Russia-Africa summits.
Many analysts are now wondering whether the Algerian authorities will attend the 2024 Korea-Africa summit or skip it to avoid humiliation as they did in several other international gatherings deepening their isolation and confirming they are a party to Sahara conflict.
South Korea is planning an FTA with Morocco. It sees the country as a gateway to Africa and a key partner in the region. Thanks to its political stability, geostrategic position, economic performance, modern infrastructures and growing industrial clusters, Morocco has become a competitive manufacturing and exporting hub for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
