World Bank, Mauritania ink soft loan agreements worth $85m to finance multiple projects

Mauritania and World Bank signed Monday in Nouakchott two soft loan agreements worth $85 million for the financing of two projects.

The first deal is about additional funding for the project to support decentralization and the development of intermediate towns (Moudoun Project), to the tune of $25 million.

The project seeks to improve access to services in target areas and strengthen the capacity of local authorities to plan and manage local public services.

The loan deal will provide financing for the Western Africa Regional Digital Integration Program (WARDIP) estimated at $60 million.

WARDIP supports regional efforts to increase geographic reach and affordability of broadband networks and foster an enabling environment for developing a single digital market at the regional level.

Mauritania’s Minister of the Economy and Sustainable Development, Mr Abdessalam Mohamed Saleh signed the deals with Cristina Isabel Santos, the Resident Representative of the World Bank.
