UAE investors to build two desalination plants in Moroccan Sahara

Emirati firms Metito Utilities and Tahliya have announced in Dubai plans to build two seawater desalination plants powered with renewable energy in the Moroccan Sahara.

The announcement was made Thursday on the sidelines of COP28 currently held in the UAE. It comes after the Declaration signed by King Mohammed VI and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for a “solid and innovative partnership” in economy, trade, agriculture, energy, tourism, drinking water, infrastructures…

Metito Utilities is a global investor and developer of sustainable water management solutions and climate resilient water assets. Tahliya Group is a prominent UAE-based infrastructure company specializing in power generation and desalinated water production plants in Africa.

Commenting their joint projects in Morocco, Rami Ghandour, CEO of Metito Utilities said: “we are thrilled to join forces with Tahliya Group to adeptly tackle pressing issues concerning water scarcity, food security, and sustainable development in Morocco”.

For his part, Zouheir Bensaid, CEO of Tahliya Group said his company and Metito will mark a new milestone in the water industry by developing alternative energy powered desalination plants for irrigation in Morocco.
