Sahara: GCC leaders reaffirm steadfast backing to Morocco’s territorial integrity
The leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries have reiterated their unwavering support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara and for the preservation of the security and stability of the North African Kingdom and its territorial integrity.
The supportive stand comes in the final statement released at the end of the 44th GCC summit held in Doha, Qatar. The summiteers hailed the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2703 issued Oct. 30, 2023 on the Moroccan Sahara.
The resolution urged all parties to the conflict (Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania and Polisario) “to continue the round-table political process and work together to achieve a realistic, enduring and mutually acceptable political solution based on compromise.”
The GCC final statement lauded the special strategic partnership existing between the Gulf Cooperation Council and Morocco, stressing the importance of implementing the joint action plan.
The leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council also congratulated Morocco on the FIFA Council’s approval of the Kingdom’s joint bid with Spain and Portugal for hosting the 2030 World Cup.
